 Thirteen initiative groups on referendum have submitted their referendum membership lists to the Azerbaijan Central Election Commission (CEC). “Fourteen initiative groups on referendum have been established. The Democratic World of Azerbaijan initiative group decided to support the New Azerbaijan initiative group and has not submitted its referendum membership lists to the CEC,” CEC Spokesperson Azer Sariyev told Trend News on Feb. 2.

 An Azerbaijani pro-government party will partake in an agitation campaign jointly with the governing party’s initiative group. “Our party’s members will hold agitation with the governing New Azerbaijan Party’s initiative group,” the pro-government Ana Vatan Party’s Chairman Fazail Agamali told Trend News on Feb. 2. A term of submitting signature lists to the CEC finished at 18:00 on Feb. 1.

 Azerbaijani members of parliament aim to discuss a Russian armament supply to Armenia in Moscow. On Feb. 2, Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov offered to send members of parliament to Moscow to meet with their Russian counterparts to discuss an alleged armament supply to Armenia. Media reported that Russia transferred military equipment to Armenia from the Russian 102nd Military Base in Gumri worth $800 million.

 MP of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) opposes dubbing Turkish films. “It is inadmissible to translate Turkish films and serials to Azerbaijani language,” the NAP deputy executive secretary and MP Siyavush Novruzov said at the parliament on Feb. 2 Azerbaijan National Television and Radio Council (ANTRC) banned broadcast of films in foreign languages, including Turkish from Jan 1. According to the ANTRC decision, foreign films must be translated into Azerbaijani.

 Opponents of referendum to amend the Azerbaijani Constitution are engaged in provocation, the governing New Azerbaijan Party’s (NAP) Executive Secretary Ali Ahmadov said. “Law violators’ arrests are connected with referendum. These groups are functioning in an incorrect direction,” Ahmadov said at the first meeting of the parliament’s spring session.

 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict must be resolved based on UN Security Council resolutions calling for the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Azerbaijani lands, the Azertaj state news agency quoted President Ilham Aliyev as saying in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Aliyev said the conflict remains unsolved despite years of negotiations.

 Samad Seyidov, Head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE has today addressed MM spring session on outcomes of PACE winter session, APA reports. Seyidov stressed that Azerbaijan had implemented commitments undertaken in the Council of Europe. MP stated that the law on alternative service was not adopted, because of current war situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Seyidov underlined that Azerbaijan expected the same approach from the Council of Europe.

 The U.S. Azeris Network (USAN) has announced the first-ever Azerbaijani-American credit card and world’s first Azeri financial product introduced outside of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Adil Baghirov, the Executive Director of the USAN, told the APA Bureau that tnhe introduction of the USAN Visa Platinum Credit Card is a new milestone for the Azerbaijani-American community, which will allow to raise the awareness about the diaspora and USAN, add prestige and greater recognition, as well as help USAN to meet its annual fundraising goals in order to continue the grassroots advocacy for all Azerbaijani-Americans.

 Azerbaijani-Belarusian business forum will be held in Baku tomorrow. A big delegation representing business circles of that country will come to Baku to attend the business forum, APA reports referring to the embassy of Belarus in Azerbaijan. The delegation headed by the deputy chairman of Belarusian Industry-Trade Chamber Nicolay Sakhar includes representatives of 12 large enterprises.

It was clear that the project was important for Europeans”, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave an interview to the newspaper Wall Street Journal, APA reports quoting AzerTAj state news agency. The Head of State noted that the realization of the project needed any financial source.

 “World economic crisis had certain influence on touristic sector as well. Earlier there was 6-7% increase in tourist flow in the world. But as a result of the economic crisis the figure reduced to the level of 2-3% at the end of the last year. For this reason the world tourism is expected to develop by 2-3% this year”, APA reports quoting minister of culture and tourism Abulfaz Garayev. According to him, the crisis will influence the number of tourists coming to Azerbaijan.
