 The international community intends to assist to solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in the nearest term, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov said today. "We approve the updated version of the Madrid principles. They give an opportunity for broad discussion of the question. But the Armenian side claims that there are points which are necessary to coordinate", minister told media.

 “Yerevan and Baku must come to compromise to restore peace dynamics”, said French president Nicolas Sarkozy during his meeting with Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan, APA reports. He noted that an initiative started a year and half ago has weakened. This was the second meeting between the French and Armenian presidents.

 Trend News interviewed OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Special Representative on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Mr. Goran Lennmarker in the run up to his Azerbaijan visit scheduled for March 13-16.

 “I regard the present situation concerning Nagorno Karabakh conflict as the stage to pass a decision,” OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s special representative for Nagorno Karabakh and Georgia Goran Lennmarker told APA’s Georgia bureau. Goran Lennmarker said he would pay visits to Yerevan and Baku after finishing meetings in Georgia.

 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with his Armenian Counterpart Edward Nalbandian in Moscow March 8, the Russian foreign ministry reported. During the talks, particular attention was paid to the exchange of views on continuing the process of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement.

 Azerbaijan state attaches great importance to the protection of human rights. However, some problems, especially the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, have created serious obstacles for economic development of our country.  Ordinary Armenian population of the Nagorno-Karabakh wishes to live in a part of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani community of Azerbaijan's Nagorno-Karabakh region head Bayram Safarov told Trend News today. "They experience great financial difficulties. Only 3-5 percent lives well. The rest are suffering. They know that the Nagorno-Karabakh is the Azerbaijani territory and sooner or later these lands will be returned to the true owner.

 Particular attention will be paid to examination of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during OSCE Parliamentary Assembly chairman's visit to Azerbaijan, said the Azerbaijani deputy parliamentary speaker. "The core theme of discussions to be held at the sidelines of a visit by Joao Soares, Chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, will be Azerbaijan's activity in the organization and main problems of the region," Bahar Muradova, deputy parliamentary speaker and Azerbaijani head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly told reporters on Tuesday.

 “The European Union will continue to support the OSCE Minsk Group efforts towards the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict”, said EU President, Foreign Minister of Spain Miguel Angel Moratinos. He said co-chairs called on the negotiating sides to make political decision on peace process and settlement of the conflict.

 The occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia complicated cooperation in the Caucasus on a regional and global scale, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said. In his article published in the Russia in Global Politics journal, Davutoglu wrote that Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory by Armenia impede economic growth and the development of human capital and natural resources.

 Azerbaijani Khojali is twinned with Czech Lidice. Corresponding protocols were signed on February 26 in Lidice, the Azerbaijani-Czech society reported. With the support of the Azerbaijani-Czech society, the State Commission on work with the Diaspora and the Azerbaijani embassy in the Czech Republic in the Memorial complex in Lidice was held an event on 18th anniversary of Khojali tragedy.

Prior to the event, was held a presentation of the clip rap songs in English "Justice for Khojaly".

 Special representative of the European Union for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby had an exchange of views with the Azerbaijani authorities on European-Azerbaijani relations and how they can develop within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.  Azerbaijan will not give up and continue its efforts the Khojali genocide to be recognized internationally, Azerbaijani Parliament Vice Speaker Ziyafet Askerov told journalists. "It's a great pity that the world community does not react to the genocide committed in late the 20th century by Armenians," he said.

 The U.S. George Washington University hosted an event dedicated to the anniversary of the Khojali tragedy, the Azerbaijani-American Council reported. The event was organized by the Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC), the Azerbaijan Society of America (ASA), the George Washington University-Turkish Student Association (GWU-TSA) and the Assembly of Turkish American Associations (ATAA).

 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visited today the memorial to victims of the Khojaly tragedy, erected in the Khatai District of Baku. President Aliyev put a wreath at the monument to commemorate the victims of the genocide.
