 The Azerbaijani Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources conducted regular monitoring of pollution of transboundary rivers Kura and Araz in the third decade of August, the ministry told Trend. The flow of water in Kure declined by 17.6 cubic meters per second and was 89.6 cubic meters per second in the third ten days of August compared to the second one.

 The Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers reported that the Ramadan holiday will be celebrated in the country Sept. 9-10. Those days are announced day-off. The Cabinet has decided to celebrate the Ramadan holiday Sept.9-10 in accordance with the Article 105 of the Labour Code, as well as information obtained from the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences and the Caucasus Muslims Office.

 On September 1, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited the eastern provinces of the country, crossed the Azerbaijani border and traveled to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. APA reports quoting the Zaman newspaper that Ahmet Davutoglu washed his hands in the Arpachay river on Turkey-Armenia border.

 The 1st Renewable Energy Caucasus Forum will be held in Baku on September 7-8, 2010.  The U.N. thanked Azerbaijan today for providing assistance to Haiti after a massive earthquake took thousands of lives and left thousands more homeless. Earlier, Azerbaijan allocated $500,000 to the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. The Haiti Emergency Relief Fund is a joint fund providing financial assistance to eliminate the consequences of emergency situations in Haiti.

 Georgia celebrates Unity Day today. The holiday was announced by Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili Sept. 1, 2008 after the war with Russia in August 2008. Over 1.5 million people from throughout Georgia gathered on Freedom Square two years ago to listen to the president. He said that Sept. 1 would hence forth be known as Unity Day.

 Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday welcomed opening of a case in Denmark against media organs supporting terrorist PKK organization, Anadolu Agency reported. Foreign Ministry statement referred to a decision made by Copenhagen City Prosecutor's Office to open a case against Roj-TV and Mesopotamia Broadcast A/S METV company on charges that they promoted and supported the activities of the terrorist organization PKK.

 U.S. President Barack Obama is to declare the end of combat operations in Iraq in a nationally televised address from the Oval Office on Tuesday night, saying " tonight, I am announcing that the American combat mission in Iraq has ended," according to excerpts of the speech released by the White House, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

 Azerbaijan will use an e-information system during the parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) told Trend today. The elections will be held in early November. The "Election" system will reflect the voting process, enter protocols, MPs and political parties into a database, and summarize the final protocols of district election commissions.

 According to the plan of bilateral cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani servicemen will be trained at the Higher Military School of Land Forces, Gulhane Military Medical Academy, Supreme Military Flight School, Naval Lyceum, Air Lyceum Ishiglar and Higher Naval School, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said.

 A passenger aircraft crashed in the Iranian Mashad Airport this morning. The TU-154 aircraft's undercarriage caught fire as a result of damage of tire chassis, Iranian news agency İLNA reports. The fire was extinguished by fire men and passengers were evacuated. The Tu-154 aircraft is owned by Iranian airline "KİSH AİR". No injured and dead are reported.

 Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini postponed his visit to Azerbaijan. The visit is expected to take place by the end of the year, Italian embassy in Azerbaijan told APA. Earlier Frattini’s visit was scheduled for September 7.

 Defense Minister Safar Abiyev says that Yerevan’s statements that the document signed between Russia and Armenia on military assistance meant Russia’s aid to Armenia in case of war are of political and psychological character, APA reports. Minister says this is the indication of weakness, not of power.

 Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi says fuel for the Tehran research reactor will be produced within a year, Press TV reported. He also stressed the country's need for 20 percent-enriched uranium required for civilian purposes and noted that Iran has been forced to produce 20 percent-enriched uranium for medical and therapeutic purposes, IRNA quoted Salehi as saying on Monday.

 In the second half of October the PACE delegation will arrive in Azerbaijan to monitor the parliamentary elections, the organization told Trend. The mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will consist of five persons and stay in the country from Oct.19 to 22.

 Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki stressed on presence of Turkey and Brazil in nuclear talks with the West, ILNA reported. Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in an interview with the Hamburg-based weekly news magazine Der Spiegel on Monday, ''We want to talk to the so-called Vienna Group about the exchange of fuel We deliver low enriched uranium in return for 20 percent enriched fuel for our research reactor in Tehran.''

 About 3,171 teachers have applied for participation in the competition announced by the Azerbaijani Education Ministry to recruit teachers for public schools, the ministry told Trend. Most of the candidates claim to be a teacher in primary classes and teachers of English, Azerbaijani language and literature, history, physics.
