Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Inter-Parliamentary Union explore cooperation

As part of her working visit to Geneva, Switzerland, Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, met with Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

During the meeting, the discussions revolved around the cooperation between Milli Majlis and the IPU.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that Milli Majlis, which maintains cooperation with the international parliamentary institutions both on bilateral and multilateral levels, attaches great importance to furthering relations with IPU. In this regard, they hailed the successful organization of a number of joint events, enabling further enhancement of relations. Martin Chungong commended Azerbaijan’s high-level representation in IPU and the country’s active involvement in the activities of the union.

The Azerbaijani parliamentary speaker stressed that an active dialogue between the leaderships of Milli Majlis and IPU contributes to advancing ties between the two bodies.

The discussions also dealt with the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, set to be hosted in Azerbaijan this November. They noted that the COP29 Conference would enable parliaments to exchange views and share proposals and ideas with respect to climate action.
