Azerbaijani delegation embarks on visit to United States

An delegation of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, including Samad Seyidov, Anatoly Rafailov, Nigar Arpadarai, Tural Ganjaliyev, Acting Head of the Department for Cooperation with International Human Rights Institutions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jala Ibrahimova, Head of the Department of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations Vasif Huseynov, and Rabbi Zamir Isayev, Chairman of the Sephardi Jewish community of Baku, is on a visit to the United States.

The aim of the visit is to hold meetings with members of the upper and lower chambers of the U.S. Congress, officials of the U.S. administration, representatives of leading think tanks and Jewish organizations, to highlight the country’s innovations and the positive dynamics in the current bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and U.S., as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The first meeting was held with Sarah Rosnick, Chief of Staff to Representative Jim Baird, a member of US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The delegation also participated in a round table attended by several leading U.S. Jewish organizations, think tanks, and assistants to members of the U.S. Congress.

During the meetings, the members of the delegation briefed the ongoing developments in the South Caucasus region, the revival of Azerbaijan-U.S. bilateral relations after the Washington Summit on August 8, as well as the repeal of Amendment 907, initiatives against Azerbaijan in the U.S. Congress, and a number of other issues.

The delegation is expected to hold meetings with representatives of U.S. State Department, the upper and lower chambers of the U.S. Congress, think tanks, and the U.S.-Azerbaijan Chamber of Commerce.

The visit will run until November 21.
