Activity of voters at the presidential election in Azerbaijan was 72.31 percent, Azerbaijani Central Election Commission’s chairman Mazahir Panahov said on Thursday at the press conference in Baku.
The election was held transparently and met modern requirements, Panahov said.
According to the preliminary results (from over 72 percent of polling stations around the country) Ilham Aliyev gained 2,282,936 votes (84.73 percent).
Panahov underscored that no one has any doubts about Ilham Aliyev winning the presidential election of Azerbaijan, however country’s CEC in line with legislation does not have the right to officially announce the election results and the final decision on the election will be made by the Constitutional court.
“We have experienced a historic day. The election was carried out at a high level. Big activity of the voters was observed. In general about 72.31 percent of voters participated in the election,” he said.
Head of CEC went on to say that with help of webcams, installed at 1,000 polling stations, the whole world was watching the election.
“During the day there were no official complaints, there were only a few dissatisfactions. We achieved the election process to be carried out in complete transparency and in line with modern standards. For this in the first place we are thankful to the citizens of Azerbaijan, international observers, district electoral commissions,” Panahov underlined.
Panahov expressed gratitude to the voters of Azerbaijan for active participation at the election as well as to the observer missions, and employees of polling stations for effective work.
He also thanked the media outlets for covering the process of election.
According to him all the observers as well as representatives of international media outlets witnessed transparent presidential election in Azerbaijan.
The data from 3947 polling stations from total 5492 have been processed thus far.
Panahov went on to say that according to the received data other candidates gathered the following percent of votes: Jamil Hasanli – 5.2 percent, Igbal Agazade – 2.31 percent, Gudrat Hasanguliyev – 2.1, Zahid Oruj – 1.49 percent, Ilyas Ismayilov – 1.11 percent, Araz Alizade – 0.88 percent, Faraj Guliyev – 0.87 percent, Hafiz Hajiyev – 0.66 percent and Sardar Jalaloglu – 0.63 percent.
