On June 18, another session of the strategic dialogue between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Latvia was held in Riga.
The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by Fariz Rzayev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, while the Latvian delegation was led by Ivars Lasis, Under-Secretary of State and Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, the current state of political relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia was discussed in detail. The sides highlighted the contribution of reciprocal visits at various levels and regular contacts to the development of bilateral relations.
As part of the dialogue, opportunities for expanding cooperation in the fields of trade and economy, humanitarian affairs, science, and education were explored. The sides also reviewed prospects for cooperation within the framework of strategic energy and transport projects initiated and implemented with Azerbaijan’s participation.
Particular attention was paid to expanding the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, continuing collaboration within international organizations, and providing mutual support for candidacies.
The sides exchanged views on the current situation in the region, the process of normalization of Azerbaijan–Armenia relations, as well as the ongoing large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and measures aimed at eliminating the mine threat. The meeting also featured an exchange of views on other regional and international issues of mutual interest.
During the visit, Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev also held working meetings with other Latvian officials and participated in a roundtable discussion at a research center.
