The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial Conference, titled “Promoting international peace and security for sustainable development” kicked off in Baku on April 5.
More than 800 delegates are taking part in the conference, APA reports.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyevand Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza will make speeches at the opening ceremony of the conference.
Later on, chair of the 17th NAM ministerial conference will be elected.
Foreign ministers of Turkey, Iran, North Korea, Afghanistan, India, Palestine, Ecuador, as well as President of the UN General Assembly Miroslav Lajčák are also attending the event.
A Baku Declaration will be adopted following the two-day conference.
A senior officials meeting will be held in Baku on 3-4 April as a part of the preparation process for the ministerial conference.
Azerbaijan joined the NAM in 2011. Azerbaijan will host the XVIII Summit of the NAM in 2019 and will chair the organization between 2019 -2022.
NAM includes 120 states. 17 states and 10 international organizations have an observer status to NAM.
